HELP NOW!!! I cut BOTH my dogs nails and reached the quik on BOTH!!!?

I cut 2 nails on both dogs. 1st nail was fine but the 2nd nail I did I made them bleed. I feel like such a bad mommy...I didn't know I cut the first one too short until I looked down and seen blood on the carpet. I didn't do hers too bad but my 2nd doggie I cut "real good". Is it true they can bleed to death? I feel HORRIBLE. Luckily, I have syptic powder. How exactly do I use it? And what can I do for them to ease the pain though they are walking fine. Geez I feel bad. My girl won't even let me come close to her now but I can't blame her. :( Thanks for ur answers. Oh and fyi I'm never cutting them again...if anyone is good at nail cutting I was mail you my clippers. To the pet store or vet only for me and them from now on!
