Is the pope on the ropes over the recent allegations of a cover-up of child abuse?

I just want to make sure you understand what ‘on the ropes’ means. It’s a boxing metaphor and relates to a boxer who has been hard pressed by his opponent and has backed up to a place where he can back no further; he’s ‘on the ropes.’ So do you think the pope is ‘on the ropes’?
