How can I deter my cats from going to the Cot?

we have a cat too, and through 2 babies, I think he only got in the cot once. Just spray the cat with water and give him a tongue lashing (if that works) if he gets near the cot. Should work. Cats hate a baby crying anyways, so it shouldn't be a big problem.
